turkey day, slacker day

turkey
Thanks god for the turkey!

Today, is the only working day in recorded history that I was not bugged by a client. Lucky me.

I spent the whole day doing the things I love doing: editing images, doing a little html, and surfing for more images, comparing websites and looking at designer clothes. I was able to audit our existing projects in a clear headed fashion. I was able to employ my analytical self - not the usual harried, overloaded 2-bit brain.

I could get used to this.

continuation : Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

Ask me which part of the movie was disappointing for me - the Hogwarts Dormitory looks a little gloomy and small and I was hoping to see all 4 champions with the dragons. And Rita Skeeter? The Yule Ball was not as enchanting as the book.

Book 4 is my favorite of the 6 installments. I am hoping book 7 would top ‘em all and catapult me to Nirvana.

Am still sleepy and I am glad for the free sachet of toothpaste that the ticket lady handed out to us. Am going to brush my teeth and see if it will wake me up.

Harry Potter 4

Harry Potter 4 : The Goblet of Fire has been showing for almost a week now and I still have not seen the movie. Even I cannot imagine my seemingly lack of enthusiasm.

Hermione Granger and Harry Potter from the Goblet of Fire

These past few days have been extremely busy for me and my team. We had a website launch last 18 and numerous projects to bid on and there are a number of existing jobs underway. My hands are full with muggly-concerns that even the lure of the magical word cannot entice me. Dragons cannot turn my eyes off the monitor; charms and spells cannot deaden the nagging tic-tac-tic of the clock as I near our projects’ deadline.

My feet are firmly planted on terra firma - no floe powder can transport me to diagon alley or to Hogwarts for that matter, at this time of the year.

parenting 2.0

November 14, 2005

I should stop forcing my values and ideologies on my children because all would be for NAUGHT.

Take Barbie for example, I made a promise that I would never get Una those silly dolls. Those dolls will never do anything good to a little girl’s self image. It will only instill in her the importance of being beautiful over other greater things such as intelligence, self-respect, love… and what have yous. Those dolls will only teach girls to be vain at such a young age. And don’t get me started on fairytales.

And then Una attended a birthday party and had her first taste of Barbie, (an imitation doll from China no less) which she snatched from the piƱata and then… she got hooked on Barbie. Yes, the same silly dolls that I have just ranted and raved about.

Last night I asked her what she wanted for Christmas.

” Toys, mama.”

“OK. What kind of toys? How about a big girl’s bed?” (this is so we can get her to move out of our bed)

“Yes, bed ug un-nan (pillows). Habow (habol - blanket pud).”

“Good girl!”

“Nya A-R-B-I-E sab.”

Aarrgh! She cannot pronounce YET most of the consonant in initial form - (B)ARBIE, (B)IRDY, (M)INDA.

This morning my officemate gave me something for Una: A foam soap from Barbie Fairytopia series. Am sure that my duhling will be up and about all night marveling at this new form of witchcraft.

Never play with your REGISTRY

November 11, 2005

I am LUCID, sane, wide awake and so I toyed with my PC’s registry. This is in the hope to reinstall a trial version copy of a certain software that I so love to use but cannot afford to buy.. or more like, so loathe to spend on it. And the price for my stubborn cheapness - my system crashed!

The blue screen of death kept flashing at me. The only thing that saved me is another byproduct of my sloppiness - dual boot. When I formatted my PC for the 4th time, I failed to wipe it clean - 2 versions of XP were running on the machine - Home and Pro. And this is what saved me. I logged in on Pro and accessed my files from there. I was even able to export my precious emails from Outlook. Hehe! I used Express - it’s very light and portable.

My zoombie mental state is what saved me in the end. I must really be lucky.
